This past fall SBaird Design was approached by a new client to help them with a multi use room that was not meeting their needs. the room is used as an office/ library/ music room. We were challenged to meet all of these needs in a small space of a 11′ x 13′ room.
Space planning is a challenge but meeting several needs in a tight space is a quite a challenge. Luckily, we enjoyed this and saw it as a fun exercise in problem solving. The first step to solving the problem was better educating ourselves on the proper set-up and functions of specialty music/recording equipment. We consulted our friend Beau Sorenson, a sound engineer, about the pieces of equipment and musical needs of our clients. His knowledge and professional opinion proved quite invaluable in our space planning.
With his input and guidance and a vintage design book we found one weekend, we made a mental “kit of parts”.
After a few design charrettes, we developed 3 floor plans and sets of sketches to show our clients.
We have discovered in the past that the best designs to meet a clients’ needs usually are a combination of several parts of our different designs. We are excited to see which pieces of each designs they decide to incorporate into the final product.
